5.18.22 Weekly Update

To the Residents and Families of Valley Senior Living,

Two residents from Valley on Columbia (1 Almonte, 1 Valley Transitions) and three staff (1 Valley on Columbia, 1 Woodside Village, 1 Wheatland Terrace) have tested positive throughout the organization during the past seven days. Twenty four residents have been identified as close contacts to the positive test results and additional precautions to include increased respiratory illness onset monitoring and a series of two viral tests are in process for the close contacts.

The current CDC transmission level rating for Grand Forks County is high. Please continue to use caution when visiting to ensure proper infection prevention. If you currently have symptoms related to respiratory illness or have had contact with someone who tested positive, do not visit at this time.

Communication Process Update
Over the last two years, we recognize that our COVID communications has been overwhelming. Therefore, we have adjusted how we communicate with residents and decision makers. Our updated process for communication includes:

  • The reporting of residents testing positive and operational changes related to COVID-19 regulations will continue to occur by 5 pm the following day via printed letter and email communication. The reporting of staff members who have tested positive will be posted on our website.
  • Respiratory illness onset reporting will be listed on the website.
  • The weekly update will be posted on the website each Wednesday. Every other week we will provide a printed letter to residents and an email to primary contacts with care community updates and information.

One direct care staff from Wheatland Terrace tested positive. Through contact tracing, one close contact was identified.

Respiratory Reporting
The Centers for Disease Control and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services require the reporting of the onset of respiratory illness in three or more staff and/or residents over a 72 hour period. This required process of surveillance and reporting is designed to quickly identify communicable diseases and to prevent the spread to other persons in the facility. Residents who develop respiratory symptoms are placed on precautions and staff with symptoms are removed from schedules until test results are received. Today’s 72 hour respiratory illness onset report includes:

5/15/22 – 2 Residents (1 Valley Transitions, 1 Almonte)
5/16/22 – 1 Staff (Non-Direct Care)

Woodside Village:
5/16/22 – 1 Staff (Non-Direct Care)
5/17/22 – 2 Staff (1 Non0Direct Care, 1 Prairieview)

One direct care staff from the Oakcrest neighborhood tested positive. Through contact tracing, 17 close contacts were identified.


5.9.22

Two residents (1 Almonte, 1 Reeves) and one direct care staff from the Reeves neighborhood tested positive. Through contact tracing, nine close contact were identified.


5.4.22 Weekly Update

To the Residents and Families of Valley Senior Living,

This week three residents and five staff have tested positive throughout the organization. Two residents are from Wheatland Terrace and one resident is from the Lanark neighborhood at Valley Senior Living on Columbia. Additional precautions are currently in place within Wheatland Terrace including no communal dining, no activities, and beauty shop appointments have been suspended. Visitation continues at Wheatland Terrace and must take place inside the resident’s apartment.

Five staff from the organization tested positive this week including one direct care from  the Lanark neighborhood and one from the Reeves neighborhood with 8 close contacts identified, one direct care from Wheatland Terrace and two non-direct care staff from Woodside Village. The current CDC transmission level rating for Grand Forks County is substantial. Please continue to use caution when visiting to ensure proper infection prevention. If you currently have symptoms related to respiratory illness or have had contact with someone who tested positive, do not visit at this time.

Boosters
Residents from all care communities who were eligible were provided with the opportunity to receive the booster yesterday, May 3 from our pharmacy partner, Thrifty White Pharmacy.

Nurses Week, May 6 – 12
National Nurses Week begins on Friday, May 6 which is National Nurses Day, and ends on May 12, the birthdate of celebrated nurse Florence Nightingale. We thank our nurses for the essential functions they provide and for how they contribute to the care provided to residents at Valley Senior Living. Join us in celebrating and thanking our nurse care partners this upcoming week at Valley Senior Living!
